• History: The Rimouski Grand Prix was proposed in spring 1979 with the support of Labatt. The idea was to have a round of the popular Formula Atlantic championship backed by Labatt in the industrial park of Rimouski. This event was going to seek a new market then forgotten by the racing world.

At that time, the war was wild between Molson and Labatt in the plan of sponsorship in motorsports. Labatt believed to have made a master stroke by having the Atlantic Formula on its side but Molson had quickly reacts by obtaining the advertising exclusiveness in the tracks in Mont-Tremblant, Sanair, Mosport and Trois-Rivières. What left the organizers of the Formula Atlantic with any circuit of reputation for the time to race on. They had to visit street course or temporary course like Québec, Montréal et Hamilton. The Rimouski Grand Prix never took place, Labatt withdrawing of Motorsports with the exeption of the Canadian Grand Prix in end of 1979.

L'idée de l'époque était d'avoir une manche du populaire championnat de Formule Atlantic alors commandité par Labatt dans le parc industriel de Rimouski. Cet événement allait chercher ainsi un nouveau marché alors oublié par le sport automobile en général.

À cette époque, la guerre était féroce entre Molson et Labatt au plan des commandites en sport automobile. Labatt croyait avoir fait un coup de maître en ayant la Formule Atlantic de son côté mais Molson avait vite réagit en obtenant l'exclusivité publicitaire des pistes de Mont-Tremblant, Sanair, Mosport et Trois-Rivières. Ce qui laissa les organisateurs de la Formule Atlantic avec aucun circuit de renom pour l'époque. Ils ont dû visiter des circuits de ville ou temporaires comme Québec, Montréal et Hamilton. Le Grand-Prix de Rimouski n'a jamais eu lieu, Labatt se retirant du sport automobile à l'exeption du Grand-Prix Labatt du Canada en fin de l'année 1979.
